STSL week 12: Beşiktaş – Akhisarspor

Updated: November 17, 2017

With another International break behind us Beşiktaş are back in action tonight in the Turkish Süper Lig as they host Okan Buruk’s Akhisarspor at the Vodafone Park.

Beşiktaş went in to the International break on a positive note with back-to-back wins over Alanyaspor and Göztepe, both on the road. And were hoping to gather their strengths as they head in to an intensive final stretch to 2017. Unfortunately many of Beşiktaş’ internationals were given little to no rest and needlessly played full games in meaningless international friendlies. Pepe even sustained a mild injury in Portugal’s friendlies and therefore has not been included in the matchday squad for tonight’s match against Akhisarspor as Şenol Güneş doesn’t want to risk him ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League clash with FC Porto.

beIN Sports had a predicted lineup earlier today which included Pepe, however it has since been revealed that the experienced Portuguese defender was not included in the matchday squad. With Ryan Babel, Cenk Tosun and Oğuzhan Özyakup all having played a high amount of minutes for their respective national teams over the past two weeks, Şenol Güneş could be expected to make some rotational changes to his starting eleven in order to rest up players for the clash with Porto.

Akhisarspor have a strong former Trabzonspor presence with Mustafa Yumlu, Soner Aydoğdu, Olcan Adın and forward Paulo Henrique. With their speed on the wings they will try to hit the Black Eagles on the counter. Akhisar started the season off positively but have lost their last two league games. Despite that they still managed to gather 17 points from 11 games, indicating clearly that they are no pushovers.
