STSL week 18: Antalyaspor – Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş went in to the Winter break having to make up for a 6 point deficit from the top and can afford no slip ups as they head in to the second round of the league season.

The Black Eagles travel to Antalyaspor, a team they beat 2-0 at home earlier in the season on the opening matchday. The hosts are missing several key players, including Samuel Eto’o, Maicon, William and Djourou.

Beşiktaş are without their regular central defensive duo of Pepe and Dusko Tosic, who are both sidelined due to injuries. They’re expected to be replaced by new signing Domagoj Vida and Matej Mitrovic, although Gary Medel might sneak in there before kick-off time.

With 30 points from 17 games, Beşiktaş have a lot to make up for. With topscorer Cenk Tosun being sold to Everton over the Winter break it’s up to the Spanish Matador Álvaro Negredo to step up to the plate and to provide Beşiktaş with some much needed goals.

Can Beşiktaş take a positive start to the second half of the season? Or will it be more of the same from the so far disappointing reigning Champions?
