Will Oğuzhan Özyakup be a Beşiktaş player next season?

It looks increasingly likely that Oğuzhan Özyakup will leave Beşiktaş in the summer after letting his contract run down without signing a new one. The Turkish international has a long line of suitors that are thought to be keen on taking the 25-year old from Vodafone Park. It’s an unfortunate situation that fans of Beşiktaş won’t want to see come to pass but the fact that Özyakup won’t command a transfer fee as a free agent makes his departure all but confirmed.

Özyakup’s biggest admirers are from England and a move to the Premier League is seen as the likely destination for the midfielder. Newcastle, Everton, and Arsenal looked set to fight it out for Özyakup’s signature with the Gunners poised to make a bumper contract offer to the midfielder in February but circumstances have changed since then.

Everton and Arsenal have both had a managerial change which may mean the men who take over at these clubs won’t chase after Özyakup with as much vigour. Sadly for Beşiktaş, Rafa Benitez doesn’t look to be going anywhere after he held positive discussions with Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley. The Spaniard will intensify his interest over the summer after it was revealed the Newcastle boss has already been in contact with Özyakup.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports with suggestions that Özyakup may sign a new deal with Beşiktaş but with a buyout clause of £10m which could be triggered by any Premier League team without a moment’s hesitation. All the signs point towards a move away but it looks like Beşiktaş will do what they can to recoup a fee without any intention of actually keeping the player. This is a developing story that will need to be monitored over the summer and World Cup.

Oğuzhan Özyakup won’t be going to the World Cup but both Pepe and Quaresma have been named in the Portuguese 23 man squad destined for Russia. Portugal are 22/1 to win the World Cup and there’s no doubt Pepe and Quaresma will be looking to make amends after enduring a disappointing domestic campaign.

The Beşiktaş players will be hoping to replicate their Euro 2016 triumph. Countryman Ronaldo is at 14/1 to win the Golden Boot and if he can find the back of the net with ease, both the Beşiktaş players could complete a remarkable two years of international football.

Standing in their way will be Vagner Love’s Brazil, who are at 4/1 to win. Of course, the 33-year old’s international days are well behind him but that won’t stop him cheering on his home nation at the expense of his two teammates. Punters who feel Portugal have enough to go all the way can access one of the 888sport bonus offers and claim a £30 free bet.

It promises to be an interesting summer for Beşiktaş fans with many loose ends still to be tied up. Özyakup’s future will be the main talking point and everyone at Beşiktaş will be hoping for a good outcome. If the club does let him go then receiving a fee for him will help soften the blow, especially if the money is invested back into the transfer market for the good of the club.
