Updated: June 5, 2018

Beşiktaş have repeatedly been linked with a move for NEC wonderkid Ferdi Kadioğlu over the past two seasons, but these rumours have thusfar failed to materialize.

Rumours could soon turn to facts however as we have exclusively learned that former Beşiktaş player, and now agent, Baki Mercimek is attempting to broker a move of Ferdi Kadioğlu to Beşiktaş on behest of the club.

Should Beşiktaş be able to snatch up Ferdi this Summer, he would even count as a club-trained player from the 2020-2021 season onwards as per UEFA regulations:

 What is a ‘club-trained player’?
One who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which he turns 21) has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months. This is irrespective of his nationality and age.

Who is Ferdi Kadioğlu?

Ferdi is highly rated young player of Turkish decent who plays for the Nijmegen based Dutch club NEC. Born on October 7th 1999, Ferdi is just 18-years old but already has two seasons of senior squad football under his belt. Ferdi is an attack-minded midfielder who is known for his excellent technical ability and p laymaking skills. Some have even gone as far as to compare him to Dutch International Wesley Sneijder.

Having made his Dutch Eredivisie debut for NEC last season, he quickly caught the attention of Dutch giants Ajax and Feyenoord aswell as Beşiktaş, but has stayed faithful to the Nijmegen side despite their relegation to the second tier of Dutch football. In his debut season he made a total of 34 appearances, scoring 4 times and providing 3 assists at the age of just 17.

Ferdi is also a Dutch youth international, having been capped 20 times thusfar and having scored 6 goals. Ferdi is also eligible to play for Turkey should he receive a call-up to the senior team or receive an offer to switch allegiances. But for the time being he has stated that he will continue to feature for The Netherlands.

For NEC he featured in a total of 39 matches this season, scoring 8 goals and providing another 13 assists.
