Beşiktaş-Feyenoord post match reactions.

Updated: August 7, 2014

Beşiktaş coach, Slaven Biliç, and players, Demba Ba, Olcay Şahan and Ersan Adem Gülüm made comments after the 3-1 win against Feyenoord yesterday.

Slaven Biliç;

“It was an amazing night for everybody who is a part of our club. I congratulate everybody. We got a very important victory. It was a pleasant match to watch. We played against a valuable team who is a part of a very big country. We deserved to win. It was a hard matchup, but we succeeded and I’m proud of my players.”

“We struggled in the first half. We weren’t agressive enough. We let them come to our side of the field. We were stressed until the goal, but we played a fantastic game after the goal. The goal that we conceeded worried us, but we took the driver’s seat again after the 2nd goal.”

“Oğuzhan went through a couple of injuries from the beginning of the season and wasn’t completely ready. This didn’t worry me. Since March, Mustafa is a completely different player. He’s playing with amazing confidence. He’s putting a lot of quality on the table.”

“Demba Ba’s name is enough. I talked several times with Demba Ba and he is yet to be 100%, but he told me that he had the capability to play. The system alone isn’t that important. The player’s reactions are important.”

“We did our job, guaranteed the UEFA Europa League and there is only one step left to join the Champions League. Some teams could be more preferable and some could be shown the more favorite side, but we’re never going to give up. We’re going to do our best. We’re going to try and accomplish maybe a small surprise or a big surprise.”

Demba Ba;

“My teammates are helping me out a lot. I developed very good relationships with them in a short amount of time. They’re trying their best to make my job easier. Also, the technical team, assistants and the support team are trying their best to make my adaptation period easier.”

“To tell the truth, I was a little tired at the end of the game. I felt this exhaustion and I need to tell this. Nevertheless, I still tried my best. After this match, my adaptation period will speed up.”

“The tournament for Soma is going to be very helpful for me. At the same time, it’s a very big honor because we’re going to be playing for a very good cause. Hopefully the stadium will fill up and there will be a very good atmosphere. Playing against Chelsea is going to be a pleasure for me. I didn’t get the opportunity to say goodbye to some of my teammates and I’m going to be able to meet up with them thanks to this occasion. In every sense, it’s a positive tournament.”

Olcay Şahan;

“First of all, I congratulate my teammates. We played very successfully. We started the match forgetting about our advantage. There was exictement in the first minutes but thanks to our fans, we calmed down. Later on, we went ahead due to Mustafa acting smart. We conceeded an unlucky goal, but the goals came with our fans’ support and we went on to the next round. From now on, we’re going to wait for our next opponent and then look at the situation in hand.”

“Our coach wanted to start with a 4-4-2 today. When our coach wanted this, it was up to us to put our own interests to the side and fight for the team’s success. No matter where we play, if our fans support us, we’ll be successful.”

“From the first day that Demba Ba came, his communication with us has been pretty good. Our board made a very good transfer. He’s going to be very helpful for Beşiktaş.”

“It doesn’t matter which opponent we draw. This stadium has a capacity of 80,000. Whoever may come here, we’re going to make them feel this. By the way, I also want to congratulate Veli Kavlak. I can say that he had an injury and he played without training.”

Ersan Adem Gülüm

“We started the game with control. In the first half, they had the ball and we knew that we would find chances with the balls that we played behind the defense. I congratulate Demba Ba and Mustafa. They played really well. We won 3-1. I can say that we played well as a team. We executed offense and defense all together.
