It’s been a long summer in which Beşiktaş have been busy on the transfer market.

New signings Pedro Rebocho and Victor Ruiz are expected to immediately get their first starts against Sivasspor later tonight, while Douglas is expected to start on the bench.

Sivasspor looking dangerous

Riza Calimbay’s Sivasspor are looking dangerous as they beat Fenerbahçe 2-1 in their final pre-season friendly. Their side hasn’t changed all that much compared to last season with their key signings this summer being goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa from Troyes in the French Ligue 2, Marcelo Gaiano from Braga (to replace Douglas who joined us), attacker Fernando Andrade from Porto, central defender Caner Osmanpasa from relegated side Akhisar and striker Mustapha Yatabaré from Konyaspor.

Sivasspor finished in 12th position last season with 41 points.

Beşiktaş lost their first confrontation with Sivasspor last eason at Vodafone Park 1-2, Güven Yalçin scoring the only goal for the Black Eagles that match. But came back and beat Sivasspor int he second half of the season,1-2, thanks to a stunning last minute free-kick goal by Burak Yilmaz.

Injury woes

Beşiktaş have had to deal with some setbacks during the summer as several key players suffered injuries during the middle of the training camp, disrupting the team’s preperation for the start of the 2019/2020 Süper Lig season.

Both Adem Ljajic and Dorukhan Toköz suffered injuries early on duringt he Austrian training camp, causing them to miss the friendly matches. While those two have returned from their injuries now however, goalkeeper Loris Karius and striker Burak Yilmaz are both ruled out for at least a month and did not travel with the team to Sivas for the season opener.

Who will start in goal?

With those injuries, one of the big questions is “who will start in goal?”. Youngster Ersin Destanoglu put in an impressive performance against Panathinaikos in the final friendly match, while regular number two Utku Yuvakuran made a rather poor impression int he friendlies.

Expected starting XI

Utku Yuvakuran/Ersin Destanoglu; Gökhan Gönül, Domagoj Vida (C), Victor Ruiz, Pedro Rebocho; Oguzhan Özyakup, Dorukhan Toköz, Adem Ljajic; Tyler Boyd, Güven Yalçin, Ricardo Quaresma.

According to our poll on Twitter, the majority of fans want to see 18-year old Ersin Destanoglu start over 22-year old Utku Yuvakuran. Do you agree?
