Beşiktaş: 3 Sivasspor: 2

Updated: October 20, 2014

In the 6th week of the Spor Toto Super League, Beşiktaş was able to come away with the win and 3 points against Sivasspor.

This win saw Beşiktaş win their first ”home” game of the season, increase their unbeatean run at ”home” to 20 games, finally score more than 1 goal since the 3-1 Feyenoord game and stay unbeatean in the league with 4 wins and 2 draws.

Beşiktaş had to play this game in Ankara as the Olimpiyat Atatürk Stadium’s pitch wasn’t ready. They wanted to stay in Istanbul, but Başakşehir didn’t allow them to play in their stadium.

With the injury of Sosa and Oğuzhan just returning from injury, Slaven Bilic decided to play Kerim Frei in the number 10 position and stay with the formation of 4-2-3-1. Another change in the starting lineup that caught many peoples’ eyes was Ersan and Sivok starting ahead of Pedro Franco, who had just recently came back to Turkey with a long plane trip from Colombia.

Straight from kick-off, Beşiktaş put the support of their fans behind their backs and looked for an early goal. There was a penalty shout from Beşiktaş in the 8th minute when the Sivasspor defender, Ümit Kurt, blocked Serdar’s cross with his hand. However, the penalty wasn’t given by the referee. Later on, Beşiktaş was able to find 2 clear-cut chances with Ba and Veli inside the box, but both couldn’t convert the chances as Ba couldn’t get a good first touch on the ball and Veli’s shot came off the post. It was only a matter of time that Beşiktaş would score, but the exact opposite happened as Da Costa scored due to him not being marked very well in Sivasspor’s corner. Beşiktaş got a chance to equalize just before halftime with a freekick, but Gökhan’s shot was saved by Ertuğrul and Beşiktaş went into the locker room behind 1-0.

Beşiktaş managed to trail at half-time after not taking their chances and conceding an easy goal from a set piece.

Beşiktaş began the 2nd half with another freekick opportunity. It was Ba who took it this time, but it was saved yet again by Ertuğrul. The rebound ball came to the Beşiktaş players and Ersan found an amazing opportunity to score just in front of goal, but his header was saved brilliantly by Ertuğrul. Ertuğrul was basically keeping Sivasspor in the lead. Minutes later, Beşiktaş was able to find the goal that they were looking for with Ba. Gökhan sent a brilliant cross with his weak foot to Ba, who finished it off very well. Beşiktaş found another chance right after the goal as Serdar crossed it in to Ba, who jumped up high for the header, but this time Ertuğrul was keeping Sivasspor from going behind with another save. The pressure eventually ended up with Beşiktaş finding the 2nd goal with Ba again. However, there were complaints from Sivas that Ba controlled the ball with his hand. The referee didn’t call it though and Beşiktaş was in the lead. It looked like Beşiktaş would go on to win it from here, but, yet again, an easy goal was conceded from a corner as Hakan Arslan found the equalizer from a scramble. After conceding again, Beşiktaş increased their pressure and they were able to go back into the lead 4 minutes later with Olcay this time after Ba left the ball in front of him brilliantly.. Beşiktaş concentrated on defense more after going back into the lead again and they were able to hold on to the lead. Beşiktaş had won an entertaining game 3-2.

During the 2nd half, Sivasspor’s Cicinho should’ve gotten sent off from a 2nd yellow card, but the referee didn’t send him off.

Beşiktaş showed again that they can play very good football when the pitch condition is good. The fans created a good atmosphere as well and got behind their team.
