Beşiktaş: 2 FK Partizan: 1

Updated: November 7, 2014

After back to back defeats, Beşiktaş were looking to get back into winning ways and they did just that in their 4th group match in the Europa League against Partizan.

With Mustafa and Sosa recently returning from injury and Gökhan being able to play in this match, Bilic had more options in hand for this important match that would’ve seen Beşiktaş with some breathing space in the group with a win. On the other hand, Serdar and Tolga was out due to injury.

There wasn’t many chances for Beşiktaş in the first half. Gökhan was able to get a shot off with his weak foot just outside the box and there was a chance for him to score inside the box thanks to a good cross by Motta, but his weak foot shot was saved nicely by the keeper and his shot inside the box, that he tried to place in the left corner, went well wide and over. Sivok did score a header from a set piece though. However, it didn’t count as it was ruled offside. Partizan’s tactic was to defend and counter. They defended pretty well, but couldn’t counter well and find chances. Therefore, the half ended 0-0.

Bilic decided to begin the second half with the same 11. The breakthrough came in the 55th minute after Gökhan won a penalty that Demba Ba took and converted. With this goal, Partizan decided to attack more, but that left openings in the back that Oğuzhan-Töre and Ba took advantage of 5 minutes later. Oğuzhan sent a brilliant splitting pass to Gökhan who carried the ball to the box and passed it at the perfect time to Ba, who increased the lead to 2. After getting a 2nd goal, Beşiktaş laid back a little and gave most of the possession to Partizan. Partizan reduced the lead to 1 in the 76th minute thanks to a shot outside the box and a deflection. The 3 points could’ve gone down the drain in stoppage time, but Cenk saved a close range free kick brillantly and the rebound shot came off the post. The danger was cleared and the referee blowed the whistle to end the game 2-1 to Beşiktaş.

With this result and Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Asteras, Beşiktaş increased their point tally to 8 and remained joint leader with Tottenham after 4 games. There’s no chance for Partizan to get out of the group after this game as they only have 1 point, but Asteras still have a chance as they have 4 points.

Beşiktaş will play Asteras on the road next while Tottenham plays Partizan at home.

Mustafa Pektemek picked up an injury during the match and his condition is going to be cleared up after an MRI scan. He’ll most likely miss the Başakşehir match on Sunday.

Slaven Bilic:

”We got an important win. Our target was to get of the group and we got closer to this. Partizan is a serious opponent. We deserved to win. It was important to win under these conditions. We did a good job. I’m only not happy with the last 20 minutes. It’s like we played it as if it was the last seconds. The opponent’s only chance was the last second free kick. We want to make the situation (getting out of the group) clear in the Asteras match.”

Ahmet Nur Çebi:

”There were better games that we played. In the end, we got 3 points. We’re going to continue our path in Europe with an advantage thanks to this victory.”

Demba Ba:

”We got an important victory, I’m very happy. I’m doing my best. After the back to back defeats, this win was very good for us. We’re getting closer to our target. We want to get closer to our target with a win in the Asteras match.”

Cenk Gönen:

”With the points that we’re going to get in Greece, we’re going to advance to the next round. We said stop to the bad results. There’s instances when you’re on the bench in football. When a chance is given, I want to do my best. I think that I left behind a good match.”
