On matchday five of the UEFA Europa League group stages the Black Eagles drew 2-2 away at Asteras Tripolis, securing their place in the round of 32.

Despite the qualification for the next round, coach Slaven Bilic will not be pleased with the result. The Eagles took an early lead in the first half after a cross from Gökhan Töre was sublimely finished off with a volley from Demba Ba who has now scored 13 goals in 16 official games for Beşiktaş. Demba could’ve made it two even in that first half but missed in f ront of open goal several minutes later.

In the second half Beşiktaş got a penalty after a little more than an hour played after Olcay was brought down in the box, Demba Ba wanted Gökhan Töre to take the penalty and so he did and scored the second goal. Three points in the bag you’d think. But roughly ten minutes later the home-side pulled a goal back out of nowhere. Atiba Hutchinson protested to the referee after the goal and got shown his second yellow card for that and was sent off.

The sending off of Atiba changed the game, Asteras kept piling on the pressure but couldn’t find any real openings. Untill a long range effort took a deflection and beat Cenk in the lower right corner of the goal. Oguzhan set Demba Ba up for a late winner but the angle was a bit too difficult and Asteras’ goalkeeper Kosicky did well to stop the left footed effort.

The Eagles played a good and typical game for about 70 minutes, but lost control after the red card. Slaven Bilic did state in the post-match press conference however that he sees no need to fine Atiba for his red card.
