Beşiktaş faced Adana Demirspor on matchday 4 of the Ziraat Türkiye Küpasi group F. The Black Eagles needed to win due to the slip-up in the previous match with Demirspor (1-2 to Demirspor) and losing to group leaders Rizespor (0-1) both at ‘home’.

Slaven Bilic opted to start with several youngsters despite having seen in the previous confrontation with Adana Demirspor what they were capable of.

1. half

Beşiktaş quickly took the lead after only 7 minutes when Ugur Boral’s cross was deflected in to the goal by Abdurkerim. But barely 3 minutes later the score was level again after Tolga misjudged a free-kick and the ball ended up in front of Ozgurcan’s feet who scored the equalizer.

Much like the first match between these two sides this proved to be a very entertaining match with good football on both ends. Ugur Boral came close twice to scoring, but saw his header turned away by Demirspor’s young goalkeeper Emre the first time and the second time he headed the ball wide after a great cross from Oguzhan.

2. half

Bilic made it very clearly during the break that he wanted to win this game in order to progress to the next round of the Turkish cup (there are two more games remaining now) by bringing on Demba Ba for Oguz and Gökhan Töre for Kerim Frei.

Adana Demirspor kept things locked up more tightly in the second half and it took quite some time for the first chance to come well past the hour when Cenk Tosun got the ball in the box but fired it wide.

A few minutes later Gökhan Töre swept in a great cross and found Cenk Tosun’s head, who looked certain to score but Emre had an amazing save to match the header.

Seconds later Demba Ba got the ball a good 20 meters out from goal and fired a devastating shot towards Demirspor’s goal, beating youg goalkeeper Emre and scoring his 17th goal in his 22nd appearance for the Black Eagles.

Six minutes later Beşiktaş got a free-kick on the edge of the right hand side of the box. Oguzhan took the free-kick quickly but the referee stopped the play and gave Oguzhan a yellow card, a very curious position as a player does not need to wait to take a free-kick if they don’t ask to put the wall at distance, which clearly they didn’t. No matter however as Ugur crossed the ball in to the box and Atinç scored his first ever goal for the first team: 1-3 to the Black Eagles.

Six minutes later Ugur Boral was brought down on the edge of the left hand side of the box and the referee awarded a free-kick. Cenk Tosun stept up and curled the ball in to the left corner to seal the victory for the Black Eagles and earn their 6th point in this cup campaign putting them level for the second place with Adana Demirspor but ahead on goal difference.
