Çaykur Rizespor: 0 Beşiktaş: 0

Updated: February 5, 2015

Beşiktaş played Rizespor on matchday six of the Ziraat Türkiye Küpasi, both teams were already qualified for the next round and Rizespor were already guaranteed the leader position.

The Black Eagles started with a very young team to the match. Two players made their senior squad debut: Raşit and Eslem. Beşiktaş started without a striker, with Furkan Yaman recently joining Menemen Belediye on loan, Mustafa Pektemek and Cenk Tosun still recovering from injuries.

Mustafa Pektemek did however make his comeback tonight, as a second half substitute. His first appearance since he fractured his cheekbone against Trabzonspor in the league, three months ago.

Despite starting with a lot of new faces, including brand new signings Alex Milosevic, Daniel Opare and Tolgay Arslan, Beşiktaş did actually manage to retain possession throughout the game. However creating good scoring chances proved difficult without a real striker on the pitch. The best chances were definitely for Rizespor, with Eslem clearing a ball off the line and Günay having to parry several shots from Kweuke.

Beşiktaş’ best efforts came via Tolgay Arslan, who had a good attempt in the first half and another good hard shot in the second half. Oguzhan also tested Aykut’s composure with a good long range effort.

At the end of the day this unimportant game was mainly newsworthy due to Beşiktaş suffering three injuries: in the 38th and 40th minute Alexander Milosevic and Daniel Opare suffered injuries and had to be substituted off.

Milosevic made a wrong movement with his foot and probably suffered a strained toe or another muscle in his foot, Daniel Opare quite clearly suffered hamstring strain two minutes later, undoubtedly a result of not playing regular first team football for six months.

Late in the second half around the 84th minute Eslem also suffered a muscle injury, but at this point all substitutes had been used up already so the Black Eagles had to finish the game with 10 men.
