Beşiktaş: 5 SAİ Kayseri Erciyesspor: 1

Updated: March 15, 2015

Beşiktaş have once again regained the coveted top position in the Spor Toto Süper Lig after a blow-out victory over the number 15 in the league Kayseri Erciyesspor: 5-1.

It was an important game for either side as the Black Eagles were in the hunt to reclaim the top position in the league while Erciyesspor needed to win in order to avoid a four point gap with from relegation safety.

With Galatasaray dropping points yesterday at home, 2-2 against Basaksehir and Fenerbahçe losing 2-1 away against Gençlerbirligi the Black Eagles have done some great business ahead of next week’s derby game with the Yellow Canaries (Fenerbahçe).

Slaven Bilic opted for a 4-4-2 for the first time this season, rather than the traditional 4-3-3 (4-5-1) which he has used for the vast majority of games this season. Mustafa Pektemek started next to Demba Ba up front while Veli Kavlak and Tolgay Arslan played in the center of midfield. Gökhan and Olcay played on the wings and Ramon Motta returned to the first team for the first time since his injury instead of Daniel Opare. Pedro Franco also made his comeback after serving a one game suspension following his sending off two weeks ago.

Unfortunately Serdar suffered an injury in the final warm up and had to be taken out of the starting eleven prior to the game, Ersan Gülüm replaced him as he was initially scheduled to start on the bench and Necip Uysal switched to play on the rightback position.

1. Half

The Black Eagles immediatly grabbed the visitors by the scruff of their neck, scoring the first goal after only nine minutes on the clock. However, it was dissalowed for offside. Tolgay’s free-kick was swung in to the box and Demba Ba beat goalkeeper Gökhan but while the ball was bobbling towards the goalline Mustafa Pektemek tapped it in from an offside position. But in the replay Ba did also appear to be narrowly offside.

It mattered little however since the Black Eagles took the lead roughly 15 minutes later, Gökhan Töre already scored a screamer last week in Europe away at Club Brugge and he repeated that today as he rifled a shot at goal, which took a slight deflection, and beat his name-mate in the Erciyes goal: 1-0 after 25 minutes of play.

Another ten minutes later Olcay persisted to win the ball in the box and beat his direct opponent who then decided to pull him down, a silly decision and a clear penalty. Demba Ba stept up and scored his 15th goal of the season in the Süper Lig, his 24th in all competitions: 2-0 after 34 minutes.

And just before halftime Demba Ba popped up again in front of goal, this time he turned provider with a sublime lobbed pas in the path of Olcay, who finished perfectly and beat golakeeper Gökhan Degermenci for the third time already: 3-0 after 45 minutes.

2. Half

it looked as if the Black Eagles had pretty much secured their three points already, however it didn’t take long for Kayseri Erciyesspor to pull one back. In the 47th minute the visitors got a free-kick roughly 25 meters from goal. The former Dutch international followed with an absolutely marvelous free-kick, perfection would be best to describe it. It was both perfectly placed with an incredible spinning effect, Cenk Gönen was left without a chance despite going for the top left corner and nearly getting there, but the strike was simply too perfect.

The score remained 3-1 for the majority of the second half, despite the Eagles scoring another goal twenty minutes later. Initially the referee had given an advantage after a foul but then changed his mind as he apparantly felt the advantage was lost, nothing was less true however as Mustafa Pektemek scored the Black Eagles’ fourth goal, however it wouldn’t count as the referee had just blown his whistle. Cüneyt Cakir was clearly apologetic after he realized he made a big mistake and had no shame to admit it. He could however not change the situation anymore.

But ten or so minutes later Mustafa got his goal anyway, he made it 4-1 in the 77th minute. And only two minutes later Demba Ba turned provider again as he set up Ramon Motta with a lay-off to take a strike at goal, the Brazilian’s shot was good enough to beat Gökhan for the fifth time and thus put the 5-1 on the scoreboard after 79 minutes.

After the fifth goal Cenk Tosun came on for Demba Ba, his first appearance since suffering a foot injury against Adana Demirspor in the Turkish cup earlier this year.

The Black Eagles finished the match with the 5-1 scoreline which is their biggest victory so far this season. And the first time they score five in a single game since last season.
