Some more transfer news from Beşiktaş. After selling Ba to Shanghai and selling Atınç to Leipzig, Beşiktaş have earned € 18 million, now it is time to buy some players.

Two days ago president Fikret Orman said, “I want to buy a player from China.”. Now the identity of that player has reportedly been discovered. Guangzhou Evergrande’s Elkeson could be that player, but his club aren’t willing to let him go. The Brazilian’s performances have attracted Orman’s attention. Elkeson was already linked with the Black Eagles last year, when Önder Özen was still coordinating the transfer policiy of the club as Director of Football.

Editor Kaan Bayazit’s comments:

Fikret Orman made these comments at an Iftar dinner, he said he wanted to attract a player from China for the merchandising potential it has. With Football growing rapidly in popularity in China, and the country’s massive potential for merchandising, Orman wants to bring in a player from China to attract interest from China and possibly sell merchandise in China. Other European clubs have done similar things in the past, by brining in mainly Japanese players they got a lot of attention from Japan. Orman now plans to do the same in China. He gave Chelsea as an example. However, it seems unlikely that it would be a foreign player, but rather an actual Chinese player. So in my opinion, Habertürk are just having a wild guess here and are simply recycling the Elkeson rumors from a year ago because he happens to play in China.
