The Mehmet Yağmur mystery

Beşiktaş Integral Forex’s former player Mehmet Yağmur made some statements about his recent departure. Here is what Mehmet had to say;

”Ahmet Kandemir called me for a meeting. Later on the club made me an offer but my contract had an option for me to wait. They told me,”Sign right now if you want or else we could find another player and you might not find this offer. This hurt me a lot. I told them that I didn’t deserve this attitude at all to their face. Then, I said that I was going to wait for my option and they didn’t take any steps forward for my contract while I was waiting. If Beşiktaş wanted to, they would’ve held me on the team, but they didn’t want to. They made it look like I left because of money towards the fans. I don’t know why Beşiktaş wanted to let go of me after I had a good season. I think Ahmet Kandemir had a different plan in his head. He didn’t want me on the team. I can’t find anything else to say.”

After these statements by Mehmet Yağmur, our director who is responsible for the branch of basketball, Hakan Özköse, made statements to our official website about what Mehmet Yağmur had to say to the media. He responded;

”We read the interview that Mehmet Yağmur had given to Milliyet with sadness. Mehmet was our player who we had agreed to on terms with for 2 years this past summer and who’s contract that we had expected to continue this year under normal conditions. However, he came to us at the end of the play-off games and told us that he expected a raise due to his good performance in the recent past. We saw his request to be acceptable to a certain point and offered him a figure that was more than what was written in his contract. Mehmet didn’t find this to be enough. He let us know that he got way better offers from other teams and that he would leave the club if Beşiktaş didn’t match those offers. Since our first priority was to go through a path of a smart transfer policy according to the budget in hand, we figured out that it would be hard to hold onto Mehmet and began to meet up with other candidates for that position. Nevertheless, the final offer that we made to Yağmur was still on the table until the end of June. However, he found it suitable to termniate his contract and end his association with Beşiktaş so he paid the price to terminate his contract on June 30th and agreed on terms with Darüşşafaka Doğuş. We need to welcome these types of departures in the transfer period with maturity. That’s what we did. We thanked him for his service and wished him good luck at his new team through the media. When the circumstances were like this, we found the statements that Mehmet Yağmur made in the interview not fitting. Beşiktaş has went through a lot in the previous transfer periods due to unplanned spending. We now have a new management that has an understanding of not having a transfer’s future be under mortgage and not putting the club into more debit. On account of that, we calculate each penny meticulously and care about staying loyal to our contracts. We need to look at what we went through with Mehmet Yağmur in the transfer period from this point of view. Also, Mehmet may be right about his opinion that Ahmet Kandemir doesn’t trust him. If there is a such thing, then it is due to the fact that Mehmet came to us during our league and Eurocup journey on the final day of the midway transfer period and stated that he wanted to leave the club and join Darüşşafaka. Coaches will always want to work with players they can trust and if these types of players are the case, then the club management will force the economic conditions until the end.”.
