Results of the UEFA Europa League groupstage draw
Beşiktaş were included in today’s UEFA Europa League draw that took place...
After a flying start on the opening matchday of the 2015-2016 season away at Mersin, Beşiktaş could not continue their perfect start after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of rivals Trabzonspor at the Atatürk Olimpiyat stadium.
Beşiktaş started the game well as they had the previous week but could not immediatly find a weakness in Trabzonspor’s fortified defensive wall. The first half went by with the majority of possession in favour of the Black Eagles but without any major chances for either side. The best attempt was a shot from Olcay from outside the box for Beşiktaş while Trabzonspor tried their luck from outside the box aswell via Erkan Zengin.
Beşiktaş started the second half with a lot of pressure forward once again and this led to a fantastic opportunity when Oguzhan sent Cenk one on one with Onur, Cenk put the ball in front of the empty goal but Gökhan Töre instead of shooting in to the empty net decided to cut back to his good foot which ruined the 100% goal chance.
After this big opportunity Trabzonspor struck on the counter, N’Doye found Yusuf Erdogan in the box who scored the opener: 0-1.
However this lead did not stand long, after a quick freekick from Quaresma, Töre passed the ball back to the Portuguese winger who found the net with a flamboyant shot from the right wing completely fooling goalkeeper Onur Kivrak.
After this the Black Eagles turned up the pressure looking for the second goal but only a few minutes later Quaresma would see his second yellow card. After a freekick in the offensive third, he took the freekick quickly again but referee Palabiyik deemed this worthy of a second yellow card and sent him off.
This completely changed the game and Trabzonspor exploited the man more siutaiton although it did not lead to any major chances untill Erkan Zengin tried his luck from outside the box for the sixth time in the match and scored the winner of the match.
Beşiktaş, despite going down a man, had a few half decent opportunities but both Oguzhan and Atiba’s final passes were lacking in quality to set up Mario Gomez with the one on one chances.
