Rodgers stalling Lucas Leiva move to Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş and Liverpool had earlier reached an agreement in principle over a loan for their defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva and have now also met personal terms with the players over the past few days.

Earlier today Leiva signed his contract with Beşiktaş but at the moment Liverpool are yet to sign off on the deal. The reason for the deal not yet being concluded is Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers, who was forced to call up Lucas Leiva back to his squad for yesterday’s match against Arsenal due to injury restrictions in his squad.

Lucas Leiva made such a good impression against Arsenal yesterday that Brendan Rodgers made it clear after the game that he wants the 28-year old Brazilian to stay.

However Lucas Leiva is not willing to go allong with Rodgers’ plans as he believes that as soon as Jordan Henderson is back from injury he will just be moved to the bench again.

Lucas Leiva has made it clear to Liverpool and Rodgers that his mind is made up and that he wants his move to Beşiktaş and earlier this evening signed a contract with Beşiktaş.

Liverpool officials are caught in the middle as they have indicated to Rodgers that they have reached an agreement with Beşiktaş and have reached the point of no return, Rodgers however remains insistant that Lucas remain at Liverpool to cover for the injured players.

The move has stalled but is not off the table, talks are ongoing and a final conclusion is expected by tomorow. A plane ticket for Leiva from Manchester to Istanbul has already been booked for tomorow.
