Gaziantepspor – Beşiktaş post match reactions

Updated: August 28, 2015

Beşiktaş won their away game in Gaziantep with a convincing 0-4 scoreline. These are the post match reactions of players Oğuzhan Özyakup, Cenk Tosun, Olcay Şahan and head coach Şenol Güneş:

Oğuzhan Özyakup: “We started the game as the team in control and we pressed up front. The game was under our control until the first goal but we just couldn’t find it. After scoring the 0-1 we got a lot of space on their half and our goals came after each other. We already knew we would relax after finding the opening goal, we’ve seen them make the same mistakes against Kasımpaşa. Tolga probably told Ersan to make me shoot the ball in the corner where the goalkeeper was standing, but I didn’t listen because during training I’ve practiced a lot on shooting like this. I want to say something to Tümer Metin. He said two weeks ago after the match against Mersin that the ball will not descend enough from a spot like this. This was even closer to the goal. However, I’ve trained on this a lot, even last season with Cenk Gönen and Günay, and my practice has paid off.”

Cenk Tosun: “I firstly want to thank my old club Gaziantepspor for the 3.5 years I have spent here. I can’t thank them enough. That’s the reason I just couldn’t celebrate my goal. However, I did really want to take the penalty. It definitely was a penalty as I was brought down. Usually you don’t take it then, but I really believed in myself and asked my teammates for it and they didn’t disappoint me. We couldn’t convert our chances in the first half, but we tired our opponents out in the second half. I think that’s the reason our goals came so quickly after each other. We are now going to prepare ourselves for the Başakşehir game in the best way possible during the national break.”

Olcay Şahan: “It was a hard away game. We started well, but couldn’t convert our chances in the first half. Gökhan’s play in the second half and Oğuzhan’s free kick goal brought us the win.”

Şenol Güneş: “We are still at the beginning of the season, but our play has to improve. It is important to win tough away games like Mersin and Gaziantep. We couldn’t do the things we wanted because of the bad pitch, but my players didn’t give up on the match until the very last second and I think we deserved the win. We created more chances. I want to thank my players, this is a very good score for a pitch like this. However, I want my players to perform better.”

The head coach of the Black Eagles also had the following to say about the transfer of goalkeeper Cenk Gönen to Galatasaray and the Europa League draw: “Every game is a tough one, but I don’t think we are less than any of our opponents. We want to get 3 points in our first match. Lokomotiv Moscow and Sporting are good teams, but we are expecting to go through if we can win our home games. We are going to work for this. We are still busy with our transfers, but we already have a good squad. I didn’t want Cenk to leave, but he wanted to go and I couldn’t see the things I wanted from him. It would be great if we could get another goalkeeper, because we play in 3 different competitions.”
