Matchday 6

Round 6 of the 2015-2016 Spor Toto Super Lig season has finally arrived, the round of the first big Istanbul derby. Beşiktaş will face rivals Fenerbahçe at the Olimpiyat Stadium.

This derby is always hot, but this time it is even hotter looking at the current league table. Vitor Pereira’s men are having a fine start to the season with 4 wins and 1 draw so far, making them leaders of the Süper Lig with 13 points. Şenol Güneş’ men follow their rivals with a second place and 10 points. A win for either side will therefore have a big impact on the league table and the rest of the season.

Both sides will find a lot of opportunities on the wings. With the upcoming Caner Erkin and creative wingers Nani and Markovic on Fenerbahçe’s side, Beşiktaş full-backs Tosic and Beck are bound to have a hard time. On the other hand Gökhan Töre is in a great form, scoring the Eagles’ 3000th league goal last week against Gençlerbirliği. Ricardo Quaresma has played some great Fenerbahçe derby’s in his last Beşiktaş period and Olcay Şahan has scored more than once against the Istanbul rivals.

This will also be the game of the 2 big name strikers: Mario Gómez and Robin van Persie. Both strikers have scored 2 goals in the league so far. Gómez had a brace against Medipol Başakşehir, van Persie scored once against Rizespor and he also made the winning goal against Bursaspor last week.

Last season Beşiktaş lost both derby’s without even scoring a goal (0-2 in the Olimpiyat Stadium, 1-0 in Şükrü Saracoğlu). This doesn’t mean both games were one-sided. On the contrary, especially in the away game the Eagles missed some good opportunities, with Oğuzhan, Olcay and Demba Ba wasting a few good chances, before Moussa Sow scored in the final minutes of the game.

That same Oğuzhan Özyakup has recovered from the internal bleeding in the muscles his calf and he is reportedly starting in tomorrow’s derby. This will probably mean Oğuzhan will play next to Atiba Hutchinson, José Sosa will be the playmaker again and Quaresma will start on the bench.

The only certain missing on Fenerbahçe’s side is Josef de Souza. Diego Ribas, Abdoulaye Ba and Simon Kjaer are all doubtful. Kjaer is reported to be in the line-up next to Bruno Alves, but Diego and Ba will probably start on the bench.

Beşiktaş predicted XI

Tolga Zengin; Andreas Beck – Luiz Rhodolfo – Ersan Gülüm – Dusko Tosic; Atiba Hutchinson – Oğuzhan Özyakup – José Ernesto Sosa; Gökhan Töre – Mario Gómez – Olcay Şahan

Fenerbahçe predicted XI

Volkan Demirel; Şener Özbayraklı – Simon Kjaer – Bruno Alves – Caner Erkin; Mehmet Topal – Ozan Tufan – Raul Meireles; Lazar Markovic – Robin van Persie – Luis Nani
