Beşiktaş face Lokomotiv Moscow on matchday 4 in Group H of the UEFA Europa League. The Black Eagles need 3 points to start matchday 5 in pole-position.

Both teams met two weeks ago in a 1-1 draw at the Lokomotiv stadion in Moscow, with Lokomotiv and Sporting playing eachother on matchday 5 in the group, the Black Eagles could secure qualification with a win against Lokomotiv on Thursday and on matchday 5 against Skënderbeu Korçë who remain pointless in the group.

Mario Gómez cancelled out Maicon's second half opener to secure a point for the Black Eagles in Moscow.

Mario Gómez is the man on form for the Black Eagles, scoring an impressive 8 goals in 10 Süper Lig matches and scoring his first European goal for the Black Eagles against Lokomotiv Moscow two weeks ago. The German striker has improved his game every week that has gone by and has seen a boost in confidence now that Germany coach Joachim Löw has taken notice to his good performances and even came to Istanbul this past weekend to watch Gómez play in person.

Olcay Şahan will be making his return to the European stage after a 3 match suspension while Ricardo Quaresma is doubtful for this match after picking up an injury on Monday, he however participated in full team training on Wednesday.

Lokomotiv Moscow, who were on an impressive 11 game winning streak prior to their draw with the Black Eagles, have now hit a bump in the road as they have lost their last 3 games straight against Rostov (league), Amkar (cup) and Krasnodar (league). They will also have to do without their captain, Vedran Corluka, who saw a direct red card in their first confrontation with the Black Eagles. A red card which cost the Croatian defender a four match suspension per UEFA’s decision.

However Lokomotiv remain a dangerous side and it will definitely be a difficult game on Thrusday as the visitors will be extremely motivated to turn things around, while a victory could also mean qualification for the Russians.

Simply put the Black Eagles can not afford to drop points on Thursday and with a victory they would have to squander points against Skënderbeu in order to not qualify for the next round, assuming there will be a winner between Lokomotiv and Sporting.
