Beşiktaş striker Mario Gómez was recently called up for the national team of Germany for their upcoming friendly matches against France and Holland, after being absent for more than one year. The German striker had this to say in an interview:

“I feel like I can win every match with Beşiktaş, which is the same feeling I had at Bayern Münich. Beşiktaş has done everything for me. So far everything is like I would like it to be. Şenol Güneş said that I needed to train hard to reach my true form. He is just like Jupp Heynckes, who would make us train hard as well. Coming to Beşiktaş was the right decision. I want to become champions and to do this we need to get good results from our derby games. They asked me if I would score more goals than Eto’o, Van Persie and Podolski during my first weeks, but I want to become champions. When I’m in form, the goals will come.”

Gómez also had this to say about his recent call-up to the national team: “I’m happy about being called up to the national team. If I’m not injured, I score a lot of goals. Germany needs me. When I say they need me, I mean someone with my playing style. Germany already has enough creative players who can create chances, but they need a true striker. I think a true striker would have performed during the last matches. I’m a special player inside the box. If I’m not injured, I’ll score a lot of goals for the national team.”

Gómez has played 60 games for Die Mannschaft so far, in which he has scored 25 goals.
