International round-up

Updated: November 21, 2015

Another international break has come to an end.  Some Beşiktaş players who usually get called up didn’t this time around, mainly due to the fact that it was only friendlies. However, Mario Gomez was a player who received a call up from Germany after not being called up for over a year. This was exciting news for both the player and the fans.

Turkey: Oğuzhan Özyakup, Olcay Şahan, Cenk Tosun and Ismail Köybaşı

Germany: Mario Gomez

Canada: Atiba Hutchinson

Serbia: Dusko Tosic

Sweden: Alexander Milosevic

Oğuzhan Özyakup: Oğuzhan started both matches in the friendly win against Qatar and draw against Greece. He was subbed off early in the 2nd half for both matches and couldn’t contribute statistically.

Olcay Şahan: Olcay featured in both of the friendlies against Qatar and Greece. He was subbed on late in the 1st half against Qatar and started against Greece (got subbed off late in the 2nd half). Olcay couldn’t do much against Greece, but he played a key role in the win against Qatar after coming on. He assisted the team’s equalizer and his work to keep the ball inbound in the 2nd goal led to the winner.

Ismail Köybaşı: Ismail also played in both of Turkey’s friendlies. He came on in the 2nd half against Qatar and started the match against Greece and was on the field for the whole 90 minutes. Ismail couldn’t record an assist or a goal, but he put forward a decent performance.

Cenk Tosun: Cenk started in both friendlies, but came off late in the 2nd half in both. Cenk was able to score the winner against Qatar with a header.

Mario Gomez: Gomez started in the 2-0 friendly loss against France. He had some good chances to score, but couldn’t convert them. It was expected for him to feature in the friendly against Holland too, but the match got called off due to security reasons.

Atiba Hutchinson: Atiba started in both of Canada’s 2018 World Cup Qualifiers against Honduras (1-0 win) and El Salvador (0-0 draw). Atiba put forward very solid displays in both matches, played every minute. and lead the team.

Dusko Tosic: Tosic started at center back in Serbia’s friendly against the Czech Republic. Tosic didn’t have a good match, just like the team, as Serbia went on to lose 4-1.

Alexander Milosevic: Milosevic got a last minute call up before Sweden’s Eeuro 2016 2nd leg play-off qualifying match against Denmark after a center back from the squad picked up an injury. However, Milosevic didn’t get any playing time in the match against Denmark.

During this international break, Beşiktaş played 2 friendlies against Başakşehir and Ümraniyespor to keep players fit and give the players who haven’t been getting a lot of playing time a chance to prove themselves. Both ended in a 1-1 draw. Mustafa Pektemek scored against Başakşehir while Kerim Frei got the goal from the penalty spot against Ümraniyespor.
