With the opening of the Vodafone Arena being closer than ever, the number of rumours about the opening game are also increasing. The last couple of months there have been a lot of rumours about a possible opening game against FC Barcelona and recently there has been reported that an agreement with the Spaniards was reached. Beşiktaş have now however denied this in a message on the club’s official website, saying there has not been reached an agreement as yet.

“There have been news reports in the press with untrue elements that with the help of our sponsor Beko there has been reached an agreement with Spain’s team FC Barcelona and that they will come to the opening of the Vodafone Arena.

There have been meetings with FC Barcelona about this subject with the efforts and good intentions of Beko, but an agreement has not been reached so far. Things like the suitability of the schedule of both teams and the timing of the opening will be decisive elements in our next meetings.

We want to make clear that the news reports in the press that lead to a ‘an agreement was reached, everything is ready’ direction are not true and we present this information to the public with our respect.
