After a tough game this past Monday against Osmanlispor, with a late José Sosa winner, the Black Eagles will close the first half of the season at the Başakşehir stadium against Torku Konyaspor, who are currently 7th in the standings.

Beşiktaş need a win to remain top of the table heading in to the winter break and the January transfer window ahead of Fenerbahçe who just one point behind as things currently stand. It would be the first time since the 2003-2004 season that the Black Eagles are on top of the table at the end of the calendar year and labeled “Winter Champions”.

With an average of 2,9 shots per game, Alban Meha is probably Konyaspor's most dangerous player.

With an average of 2,9 shots per game, Alban Meha is probably Konyaspor’s most dangerous player.

But to do so they’ll have to overcome a tough side coached by Aykut Kocaman on Sunday. Konyaspor are mainly a tough collective and have already gathered 26 points so far this season, their main strength is their organization but at the same time they don’t really have a player who scores a lot of goals, with their topscorer being midfielder Alban Meha, who is also a set-piece specialist.

Meha has been the most productive player so far this season for the Anatolian Eagles with 4 goals and 3 assists to his name. Konyaspor also have Bosnian striker Rijad Bajic and Swedish midfielder Samuel Holmén both on 3 goals this season, with neither of them providing any assists. Konyaspor have scored a total of 19 goals so far this season, while also conceding 20. Uğur Inceman is a familiar face for all Beşiktaş fans, he was part of the team who last hoisted the Turkish championship up in the air back during the 2008-2009 season.

Having scored in his last 3 Süper Lig appearances, Mario Gómez (12) is just one goal away from league topscorer Samuel Eto'o (13).

The Black Eagles are currently joint topscorers in the league with 37 goals scored and 18 conceded, 12 of which came from German international striker Mario Gómez.

Despite winning their past 3 Süper Lig games the Black Eagles will have to be on their toes after a poor showing against Osmanlispor, which granted was certainly influenced by the poor pitch conditions and the harsh winter weather. Regardless, they will surely need to play better football to beat Konyaspor on Sunday and go in to the winter break as league leaders and also put Fenerbahçe under pressure who have to play on Monday against Sivasspor.

The Black Eagles are only missing midfielder Tolgay Arslan, who has started individual training again after a 6 month absence due to an ACL injury. Veli Kavlak has played in the past two Turkish cup games and is available to play if called upon.

Beşiktaş  predicted XI:

Tolga Zengin ; Andreas Beck – Luiz Rhodolfo – Ersan Adem Gülüm – İsmail Köybaşı; Atiba Hutchinson – Oğuzhan Özyakup – José Sosa; Ricardo Quaresma – Olcay Şahan (Gökhan Töre) – Mario Gómez
