Ilhan Mansız: “I didn’t want to become Bilić’s assistant”

Former Beşiktaş player Ilhan Mansız has given an interview during the saloon tournament of legends of the four big clubs of the country. The most interesting things he said were that he rejected a job to work in Slaven Bilić’s technical staff, but might consider an offer to be a sporting director.

“The important thing is to grab the title”

“Playing in the Olimpiyat or in other stadiums non-stop is a big disadvantage for Beşiktaş, but they have managed to overcome this disadvantage so far with the football they have been playing. The important thing is to continue the performance of the first half of the season until the end of the league and grab the title. Gómez has started performing like his old self after his arrival at Beşiktaş. He was having a difficult time.”

“I didn’t want to become Bilić’s assistant”

“I told Önder Özen in our meetings that I didn’t want to become Bilić’s assistant. A coach who has been for one year at the club isn’t going to betray his staff by adding a former player to it. Being a sporting director is a nice offer, but because a sporting director isn’t functioning in Turkey like one in Europe I don’t have that in mind. If an offer like that would come in I would evaluate it and think about it. If it would meet my expectations, I might want the job.”
