Matchday 6
Beşiktaş face Sivas Belediye spor in the final fixture of this season’s edition of the Turkish cup group stages. The Black Eagles are currently in first position with 10 points, one more than Sivas Belediye spor and on level points with 1461 Trabzon who played one game more than the Eagles.
Beşiktaş are already through to the next round, based on their head to head record with 1461 Trabzon, but a defeat greater than 2-0 at the hands of third division side Sivas Belediye spor, while unlikely, would mean they’d end second in the group behind Sivas.
With their opening league fixtures of the second half of the 2015-2016 season recently postponed, the regular starters could use some match fitness and coach Şenol Güneş may opt to start his regular eleven in order to get them back in the flow after an extended winter break brought on by the postponed league games.
Beşiktaş also have two new transfers who are set to make their debut, goalkeeper Denys Boyko and central defender Alexis Delgado. However both players are still waiting for their TFF license number, so they will definitely not play against Sivas. Aras Özbiliz meanwhile, the third new January signing, has joined La Liga side Rayo Vallecano on a six month loan.
Denys Boyko will celebrate his 28th birthday on Friday but he’ll have to wait a little bit longer to make his debut. Will it be Tolga Zengin in goal tonight? Or will Günay Güvenç continue to start in the cup matches, we’ll find out tonight at the Olimpiyat stadium.
If the Black Eagles win or draw tonight they will face Süper Lig side Rizespor at home in the enxt round, while a defeat would mean they’d face second division side Bucaspor away. The next round will be decided over one game while the following rounds will be home and away fixtures.
Tolga Zengin; Andreas Beck – Luiz Rhodolfo – Ersan Gülüm – İsmail Köybaşı; Atiba Hutchinson – Oğuzhan Özyakup – José Sosa; Ricardo Quaresma – Gökhan Töre – Mario Gómez
