Matchday 20

Beşiktaş will play their first league game of 2016 after their previous two matches against Mersin and Trabzonspor had been postponed due to weather conditions.

The Black Eagles square off with Gaziantepspor, who are currently in an impressive 8th position with 26 points from 19 games. When Beşiktaş travelled to Gaziantep earlier this season on matchday 3, the Black Eagles came away with all 3 points after a 4-0 victory, don’t let the score fool you however as it remained 0-0 until Oguzhan Özyakup’s freekick in the 78th minute of the match to break Gaziantepspor’s resistance.

In the previous confrontation between the two sides we saw that Gaziantepspor are perfectly capable of making things very difficult for Beşiktaş, scoring an early goal will be key for the Eagles.

Gaziantepspor recently sold one of their most key players to Trabzonspor, Muhammet Demir was the topscorer with 7 goals this season for Gaziantepspor. He was replaced this past January with Habib Habibou from French side Rennes, he spent the majority of his career with moderate success in the Belgian Pro League.

With the departure of vice-captain Ersan Adem Gülüm to Chinese club Hebei China Fortune FC, the Black Eagles will almost certainly be starting one of their new two central defenders against Gaziantepspor. The expectation is that Marcelo Guedes, on loan from Hannover 96, will start next to Luiz Rhodolfo after impressing in training so far. Marcelo is also match fit as he only recently played for Hannover, while Alexis Delgado hasn’t played for several weeks.

While Denys Boyko has really made a huge impression during the training sessions so far, it is stil expected that Tolga Zengin will remain in goal until atleast after the postponed match with Mersin. Boyko is expected to make his first start int he cup match against Konyaspor on the 10th.

The Black Eagles are back at full strength with both Veli Kavlak and Tolgay Arslan back from their long term injuries, although due to lack of match rythm they are not expected to make their league return just yet.

Beşiktaş predicted XI

Tolga Zengin; Andreas Beck – Luiz Rhodolfo – Marcelo Guedes –  İsmail Köybaşı; Atiba Hutchinson – Oğuzhan Özyakup – José Sosa; Ricardo Quaresma – Gökhan Töre – Mario Gómez
