Başakşehir – Beşiktaş post-match reactions

Updated: February 14, 2016

Şenol Güneş: “We knew what the opponent was going to do and they knew what we were going to do. We conceded a goal and then got a lot of chances, but couldn’t convert them. Then, while arguing if it was a foul or not, a foul was given. I might not be a foul, I can’t say anything about that, but we created more chances after the 2-0 as well. We gave an opponent who uses its abilities well hardly any chances. This was how we lost points against Akhisar as well.”

The head coach of Beşiktaş continues: “I want to congratulate all my players. We see this game as a victory. I would congratulate them if we didn’t get a point too. We need to improve even more. You need to keep calm if the referee makes a mistake. If an opponent starts wasting time, you need to counter and create more chances. If there is a strong wind, you need to play according to that. We need to improve our game according to these things. I hope we haven’t made people upset by our game play. We were better than our opponent, but they fought back and I congratulate them. We did some things right and some things wrong. Our central defender got yellow during the first challenge, but the opponent should’ve gotten yellow right before that. They give us cards very easily. We lost 5 points with the same referee. He didn’t send Batdal off, Abdullah Avcı did.”

Atiba Hutchinson: “It was definitely a difficult match. We played against a good opponent. We didn’t have the control during a period in the game and couldn’t play in a high tempo. There are some lessons we have to learn from this game and some things we have to fix, especially how to break the game open against teams that defend well. We need to work on that. My goal isn’t something we worked on. Mario told me to move to the space he cleared. The only thing I needed to do was stretch out my head, but we need to work on our weak points from this game.”

Andreas Beck: “We expected that it would be a difficult game and it was. It was important for us to make a comeback. We had a lot of opportunities. We should know the value of a point. We came here to win, but getting a point after falling behind 2-0 is important.”
