Matchday 19

After nearly a two month delay the Trabzonspor – Beşiktaş match, which was scheduled for January 24th, will take place at the Hüseyin Avni Aker stadium tonight. Due to heavy snowfall on the original date of the match, the game had to be postponed.

Trabzonspor are currently in the middleo f one of their poorest performances in over a decade, while the Black Eagles are having one of their best seasons in that same time frame. A win tonight would take Beşiktaş top of the table, one point clear of Fenerbahçe, while a draw would put them one point away from their rivals. A defeat would simply leave them two points adrift from the top.

Trabzonspor on the other hand would move up to 9th place with a win tonight, while a draw would see them to 12th place. Their win over the weekend against Mersin Idmanyurdu gave them piece of mind in regards to the relegation battle as they maintain a decent lead over the bottom 4, relieving furhter pressure from the importance of this match for them.

It will surely be an interesting match, not just due to the football on the pitch but also due to the circumstances surrounding this match. Because this match was originally scheduled to take place on the 24th of January, several new players will not be allowed to take part in this match. For Beşiktaş that is certainly the heaviest blow as they will have to miss their central duo Alexis Delgado and Marcelo Guedes in addition to goalkeeper Denys Boyko, while Trabzonspor will have to do without José Bosingwa and Akakpo. All these players had their licenses registered with the TFF after the original match date.

On top of that both teams have to deal with several injuries, for the Black Eagles Oguzhan Özyakup had to leave last weekend’s match with Rizespor due to a groin injury while Ricardo Quaresma left the previous match against Eskisehirspor with an injury aswell, but Quaresma is expected to be fit to play tonight. Gökhan Töre on the other hand is still suffering from edema on his right leg and won’t be able to play in this important match.Trabzonspor will be missing their first choice goalkeeper and captain Onur Kivrak, while Mehmet Ekici is still doubtful.

Beşiktaş predicted XI:

Tolga Zengin; Andreas Beck – Dusko Tosic – Necip Uysal – İsmail Köybaşı; Atiba Hutchinson – Tolgay Arslan – José Sosa; Ricardo Quaresma (Olcay) – Kerim Frei– Mario Gómez
