Vodafone Arena: there is a first time for everything!

Yesterday evening, April 11th 2016, Vodafone Arena was finally opened as Beşiktaş beat Bursaspor 3-2 on matchday 28 of the 2015-2016 Spor Toto Süper Lig season.

With it being the first ever match at the brand new state of the art ‘smart’ stadium, there were naturally a lot of “firsts”. Below is a list of the most noteworthy “first” moments.

  • First ever goal scored at Vodafone Arena: Mario Gómez, in minute 22.
  • First ever assist at Vodafone Arena: José Ernesto Sosa (to Mario Gómez), in minute 22.
  • First ever away goal scored at Vodafone Arena: Bakaye Traor&, in minute 28.
  • First ever assist to an away goal at Vodafone Arena: Pablo Martin Batalla, in minute 28.
  • First ever yellow card at Vodafone Arena: Tomás Sivok, in minute 23.
  • First ever red card at Vodafone Arena: shared honours for Hajime Hosogai and Ricardo Quaresma, in minute 90+7 (both received a second yellow card, not a direct red).
  • First ever shot at Vodafone Arena: José Ernesto Sosa, after 58 seconds.
  • First ever save at Vodafone Arena: Harun Tekin, after 58 seconds.
  • First ever penalty at Vodafone Arena: Mario Gómez, in minute 58.
  • First ever penalty save at Vodafone Arena: Harun Tekin, in minute 58.
  • First ever corner at Vodafone Arena: José Ernesto Sosa, in minute 2.
  • First ever throw in at Vodafone Arena: Serdar Kurtuluş, in minute 4.
  • First ever kick-off at Vodafone Arena: Bursaspor.
