Turkish Football And The Dawn of a New Era
With all of the end of season excitement going on currently, the...
Gústavo Gómez became champions with Lanús this past season in the Primera division in Argentina and just wrapped up his Copa América campaign with Paraguay. He’s been strongly linked with a move to Beşiktaş, Porto, Valencia and several other clubs. We spoke to Gústavo’s agent, Augusto Pereira today following several “quotes” he supposedly made towards Plaza Deportiva.
Mister Paraja can you confirm the quotes you supposedly made stating that Gústavo Gómez has agreed personal terms with Beşiktaş?
“No, I can say that he hasn’t. Journalists will write anything.”
Thank you for clearing that up, my sources have told me that Gústavo is close to a deal with Porto?
“Porto are a firm possibility for him yes, the question now is who will wrap up the deal first.”
Is Beşiktaş a serious option for Gústavo?
“It’s a great club and any player would want to play for them.”
It’s no secret that the Black Eagles are working hard on strengthening their defensive back four, Kamil Glik, Nicolas N’Koulou, Gústavo Gómez and Martin Skrtel have all been linked with a move to Istanbul over the past few weeks.
Beşiktaş officials Ali Naibi and Gökhan Keskin have been in the US in recent days as they ahve been tracking several potential targets for the Black Eagles during the Copa América which is currently being organized in the USA. Over the past two weeks the Black Eagles have been linked with multiple players active at the tournament. It seems that Gústavo Gómez is certainly one of them, but our sources tell us that he is close to a move to FC Porto, a move to Beşiktaş seems highly unlikely. Lanús want a top price for their 23 year old Paraguay international and Beşiktaş aren’t exactly known for paying high transfer fees.
