Beşiktaş issue statement regarding Balotelli ‘quotes’

Updated: July 27, 2016

Earlier today alleged quotes from Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman regarding Mario Balotelli were published by Turkish newspaper Fanatik, written by Orhan Yildirim.

Fanatik’s Orhan Yildirim claimed that Fikret Orman had stated “We want Mario Balotelli and Mario Balotelli wants us”. However, the club have now issued an official statement denying the quotes and stated that they were completely fabricated by the Fanatik writer.

The article was picked up by multiple international media outlets, including Goal.com and we published their version of the article, however we added a disclaimer that the article was based on a Fanatik article which we deem untrustworthy.

We would once again like to stress to all our readers that articles published by Fanatik, Fotomaç, etc. are usually fabricated articles with false quotes. These are daily sports newspapers that have to fill an entire issue every day with “news”, which isn’t an easy task so they often result in to making up stories themselves.

Unfortunately international media seem to have still not picked up on Fanatik’s horrendous track record.

We’d like to stress that the club did not deny interest in the player, just the quotes made up by Fanatik and their writer Orhan Yildirim.

Here is the official statement issued by the club earlier today:

Kulübümüzden Açıklama

Fanatik gazetesinde Orhan Yıldırım imzasıyla yayımlanan ‘Fikret Orman: Balotelli bizi istiyor’ başlıklı haber asılsızdır.

Haberde Başkanımız Fikret Orman’ın ismi kullanılarak Balotelli’yi takımda görmek istediği ve futbolcunun da Beşiktaş’ta oynamayı istediği şeklindeki ifadeler başkanımıza ait değildir.

Taraftarlarımızın ve kamuoyunun basın-yayın organlarında yer alan transfer iddialarına değil, kulübümüzden yapılacak resmi duyurulara itibar etmesini rica ederiz.

Kamuoyunun bilgilerine saygılarımızla sunarız.
