‘Beşiktaş interested in Gökhan İnler’

By now it seems like an annually reoccurring transfer rumour, but Gökhan İnler is once again being linked with a move to Beşiktaş this summer.

Beşiktaş were looking to strengthen their squad last summer in the defensive midfielder role and İnler was their number one target. However, Napoli wanted a lot – too much – for the Swiss international and Beşiktaş had to bail out of the race while Leicester City were willing to cough up the 7 million euros the Italians were demanding.

Despite winning the Premier League with Leicester, it wasn’t a very good season for the 32-year old midfielder. Featuring in only five competitive matches and lastly eight months ago, İnler has now even been dropped from the team and has been put on the transfer list.

While Beşiktaş have other transfer priorities this summer, the reason for Gökhan İnler’s supposed sudden reappearance on Beşiktaş’ radar would be his agent – Dino Lamberti – who also represents Beşiktaş left-back Adriano Correia.

Leicester would want to cut their losses and sell Gökhan İnler at a discounted price of 3 million euros. However given Beşiktaş’ limited transfer budget this summer, it seems highly unlikely that they will be spending it on a player for a position they don’t really need all that badly. If Leicester were to significantly drop their asking price, or even let the player go for free, a transfer could be possible however.
