Beşiktaş drawn in Group B of the UEFA Champions League

Today on Thursday August 25th 2016 the draw for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League group stages took place in Monaco. Beşiktaş were drawn in Group B along with SL Benfica from Portugal, Napoli from Italy and Dynamo Kyiv from the Ukraine.

Beşiktaş will once again meet Dynamo Kyiv with whom they have faced 6 times in the past 14 years. Knocking them out of the UEFA cup back in the 2002/3 season but also bowing out of the Europa League during the 2010/11 season, during the following 2011/12 season they met again, this time in the group stages of the Europa League where Beşiktaş ended top of the group while Kyiv were eliminated.

The Black Eagles don’t have any history with either Napoli or Benfica but have met up with Italian and Portuguese clubs on numerous occassions in the past decade and a half.

The group certainly offers Beşiktaş some perspective but it will without a shred of doubt be a very tough European campaign. With a bit of luck the Eagles could top the group, but they could just as easily end in 4th position.
