Aboubakar leads Cameroon to AFCON glory!

Updated: February 6, 2017

Beşiktaş striker Vincent Aboubakar has led his nation Cameroon to victory in the final of the Africa cup of Nations on Sunday.

The 24 year old forward, on loan from FC Porto, scored a stunning goal two minutes from full time, which would prove the winner against Egypt, leading “The Indomitable Lions” to victory in the final.

Egypt had taken the lead in the first half but Hugo Broos’ men turned the game around in the second half as Nicolas N’koulou cancelled out Mohamed Elneny’s first half opener. Aboubakar would complete the turnaround with two minutes left on the clock with an impressive flick over the defender before volleying the winning goal past goalkeeper El Hadary.

Aboubakar’s role in Cameroon’s AFCON win wasn’t limited to his goal in the final, in the semi-finals he assisted Cameroon’s second goal against Ghana while in the quarter finals he had scored the deciding penalty in the penalty shout-out against Senegal.

With Ricardo Quaresma winning the European championship with his nation Portugal in 2016, Vincent Aboubakar is the next Beşiktaş player to be crowned champion of his continent, and with that Beşiktaş now have two continental champions in their squad.

Congratulations Abou!
