Following Beşiktaş’ qualification last night as they beat Hapoel Be’er Shéva 5-2 on aggregate, they were part of today’s draw for the UEFA Europa League round of 16.

The reigning Turkish champions were matched up with their Greek counterparts Olympiakos, who had eliminated Osmanlispor in the previous round 3-0 on aggregate.

Beşiktaş and Olympiakos have never met before in European competition and have only faced a Greek opponent twice, during the 2014/15 season’s edition of the UEFA Europa League group stages; they drew twice with Asteras Tripolis.

While Beşiktaş qualified for the Europa League by ending third in their Champions League group, Olympiakos were initially eliminated from the Champions League qualifeirs by none other than Beşiktaş’ previous Europa League opponent Hapoel Be’er Shéva. The Greek Champions continued to end second in their Europa League group, gathering 8 points against the likes of Young Boys Bern, APOEL Nicosia (group winners) and Astana.

The first leg will be played on 9th of March in Greece at 19:00, while the return leg will take place on the 16th of March at the Vodafone Arena, kicking off at 21:05.
