STSL week 23: Beşiktaş – Rizespor

Updated: March 4, 2017

Coming off a key victory on Monday over rivals Galatasaray, Beşiktaş will look to add another 3 points to their total as they host 16th placed Çaykur Rizespor at the Vodafone Arena today.

No goal for Cenk on Monday against Galatasaray, with Talisca scoring the only goal, can Cenk find his 17th today against Rizespor?

Earlier in the season Beşiktaş snatched a late winner against Riezspor as Adriano Correia fired the winning goal in to the top corner in the final seconds of second half stoppage time, a lucky win some might say although Beşiktaş did dominate the entire game and had a plethora of chances to score from throughout the match. Rizespor have struggled but at no point have looked dead in the water, they’ve been dangling just above the bottom 3 for the majority of the season but due to Kayserispor’s recent resurrection they now find themselves within that bottom 3 and are in real danger of going down to the TFF 1. lig at the end of the season.

Beşiktaş on the other hand are going through a good period and find themsleves 4 points clear at the top, a win would put additional pressure on their closest rival Istanbul Başakşehir, who take on Alanyaspor on Sunday. The Black Eagles have no new injuries or suspension so Şenol Güneş has his ideal side at his disposal. The Black Eagles have won 8 from their 10 home games this season in the Turkish Süper Lig, being held to a draw twice (by Galatasaray and Başakşehir). Rizespor on the other hand have lost 7 of their 11 away games so far this season.

The visitors will have to do without the suspended Ahmet İlhan and Petrucci while Süleyman Koç, Mehmet Akyüz and Ümit Kurt were also not included in their matchday squad.

For the Black Eagles no suspensions as previously mentioned but 3 players are just one yellow card removed from a yellow card suspension: Ricardo Quaresma, Gökhan Gönül and Atiba Hutchinson.

Şenol Güneş is expected to do some minor rotating as Beşiktaş play their first leg match against Olympiakos in the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday. Therefore Andreas Beck, Gökhan İnler and Tolgay Arslan could all find their way on the starting eleven today.
