STSL week 28: Beşiktaş – Adanaspor

The Black Eagles exitted Europe with their heads held high this past Thursday, but not before a grueling 120 minutes of high intensity football. With rivals Istanbul Başakşehir failing to claim all 3 points away at Rizespor, Beşiktaş now have the chance to extend their gap at the top and move 7 points clear with a win over bottom side Adanaspor.

Adanaspor look dead in the water at the bottom of the table, but it wouldn’t be the first time this season that a relegation side surprise one of the top 5 teams. However, Beşiktaş are the hosts at Vodafone Arena and have had several days to recuperate from their European clash with Olympique Lyon. Şenol Güneş is expected to make several changes in his starting lineup in order to give some players some much needed rest. With a potential title decider next weekend, as Beşiktaş visit closest rivals Istanbul Başakşehir, Güneş won’t want to miss any of his key players.

Adriano and Ricardo Quaresma are both expected to be rested against Adanaspor tonight, although there’ve been some reports that Quaresma might play. Marcelo is back in the starting eleven, after having missed Thursday’s game due to a yellow card suspension. At leftback we might see either Dusko Tosic or Caner Erkin making his return, but it’s most likely that we’ll see Tosic start there with Mitrovic taking his place in the heart of defence.

Up front Vincent Aboubakar returns as Cenk Tosun is serving a one match yellow card suspension, Demba Ba is expected to start on the bench and get some playing time in the second half.

When both teams met earlier in the season, Beşiktaş got the 3 points in Adana with a 2-1 win thanks to a goal from both Vincent Aboubakar and Cenk Tosun while Magaye Gueye scored from the penalty spot for Adanaspor.

With some tough matches around the corner, starting with Başakşehir away, the Black Eagles need to take all 3 points tonight to go in to that match with a comfortable 7 point lead. Should Beşiktaş take 6 points in their next two matches, then their second consecutive title seems imminent.
