During today’s general club congress Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman has revealed the club’s plan to purchase Kocaeli Birlikspor and utilize them as a satelite club.

Orman spoke about the club’s need to imrpove the development of their own youth products as the success rate of youngsters coming out of the Beşiktaş academy the past decade has been disappointing. There have been plenty of talks over the past couple of years which Fikret Orman adressed today. “There have been talks to work together with a Belgian club in the past, but we will first put our focus on a domestic club” Orman told the assembled congress members, “we are planning to make a 10 million Turkish Lira bid for Kocaeli Birlikspor”.

The gneeral congress later approved the suggested takeover of Kocaeli Birlikspor, giving the club’s leadership the go ahead to purchase the third division side.

Kocaeli Birlikspor are currently in the Turkish 3rd division’s “white” group. They finished the regular season in 4th position but lost during the promotional play offs to Erzurumspor (4-2 agg).

10 million Turkish Lira with today’s exchange late is slightly less than 2,5 million euros. Beşiktaş would purchase Kocaeli Birlikspor in order to further develop their academy player at a more competitive level than the youth leagues.
