Following the Black Eagles’ convincing win, Istanbul Başakşehir faced Trabzonspor on Sunday and played to a scoreless draw, dropping two crucial points and seeing the point defeicit between Beşiktaş and Başakşehir increase to four at the top of the table.
With only two games left in the 2016/17 Turkish Süper Lig season Beşiktaş can secure their 15th league title this coming Sunday if they beat the already relegated Gaziantepsor in Gaziantep. Should Beşiktaş fail to do so, they’ll have a final chance on matchday 34 at home against Osmanlispor to secure the title. Başakşehir in turn will host the already relegated Adanaspor on Saturday and they finish the season away at Kayserispor.
Despite dropping two crucial points in the title race Istanbul Başakşehir have guaranteed themselves a second place finish and the belonging UEFA Champions League qualifier ticket. Başakşehir will also face Konyaspor in the Turkish cup final on May 31st in Eskişehir.
