BEŞİKTAŞ CROWNED 2016/17 TURKISH LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

Beşiktaş have been crowned the 2016-2017 Turkish Süper Lig Champions following a convincing 4-0 win away against Gaziantepspor today.

With this their 15th Championship since 1957, Beşiktaş have earned their third star to be added to the club’s logo (one star per 5 titles). Beşiktaş have now won back-to-back titles under their coach Şenol Güneş, who is now one of the club’s most successful coaches of all time.

Not only did Şenol Güneş lead the Black Ealges to their second consecutive title, Beşiktaş gathered 7 points in the UEFA Champions League group stages losing only once and also reached the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, going out on penalties against Olympique Lyonnais.

Beşiktaş have now gathered 74 points with one more match left to be played against Osmanlispor at the Vodafone Arena next weekend. Closest rivals Istanbul Başakşehir will end in second place, they currently have 70 points. Third place will be between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray who are currently both on 60 points.

Beşiktaş’ highest scoring players in the league this season are Cenk Tosun (18), Anderson Talisca (12) and Vincent Aboubakar (11). Ricardo Quaresma is the top assister with 13 assists.
