Lyon insisting on Marcelo!

French side Olympique Lyonnais have serious interest in Beşiktaş defender Marcelo Guedes.

Lyon eliminated Beşiktaş in the Europa League quarter-finals on penalties, and despite Marcelo missing the return leg, he clearly made a lasting impression on the people in charge at Lyon.

The 7 time French Champions had their initial offer of €2m + Mathieu Valbuena turned down as Beşiktaş are only interested in a straight up transfer, despite not being overly keen on selling in the first place. Lyon followed that offer up with a €7m offer, which again Beşiktaş turned down.

Lyon’s latest offer totalled €8m, but Beşiktaş have made it clear that their price is €10m as they’re not looking to fondly on parting ways with their Brazilian stalwart in defence.

Should Lyon up their offer one more time, it seems very plausible that a deal will be reached. Beşiktaş were already planning on bringing in one or two new central defenders this Summer, with Domagoj Vida on the top of their list. Should Marcelo be sold, that would give Beşiktaş enough financial resources to finalize Vida’s transfer and attract another defender, FC Copenhagen’s Erik Johansson and Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala have also been linked with the Black Eagles.
