Turkish Football And The Dawn of a New Era
With all of the end of season excitement going on currently, the...
Rumours have been running wild concerning the future of Vincent Aboubakar over the past few weeks, with Newcastle United the latest interested party added to the mix.
However, today’s edition of the Portuguese sports newspaper O Jogo claims that FC Porto are looking to keep Aboubakar at the Dragão afterall.
Aboubakar spent a successful season with Beşiktaş, winning the Turkish league title, but the Black Eagles are unable to meet the €10m buyout clause in his loan contract due to Financial Fairplay resistrictions.
Beşiktaş have been negotiating with both Porto and Lorient, who own 70% of the player’s rights, over the past few weeks but an agreement has still not been reached. Several clubs, including Newcastle United, have also been linked with a move for the Cameroon International. But O Jogo now claim that Porto are opting to keep Aboubakar and will attempt to renew his contract.
An odd development to say the least as Aboubakar has expressed his desire to leave Porto on several occassions since joining Beşiktaş. Aboubakar hasn’t said much regarding his future but was quoted saying “I want to continue my career in Europe” when asked whether he’d consider a move to Russia while at the Confederations Cup with his nation Cameroon.
