STSL week 2: Kasimpaşa – Beşiktaş

Updated: August 18, 2017

Beşiktaş started off the season with a 2-0 victory over Antalyaspor this past Sunday, now they travel to Istanbul neighbours Kasimpaşa in pursuit of another 3 points.

Kasimpaşa have been a tough customer for the reigning Turkish champions in recent years, with Beşiktaş only beating them once in the two seasons under coach Şenol Güneş. In fact Kasimpaşa could be considered as somewhat of an ‘angstgegner’ for the Black Eagles, so they’ll need to be on their toes for this potentially tricky away game.

Beşiktaş were struck by a little injury shock prior to the match as Atiba Hutchinson will not be able to compete tonight,  his replacement in midfield is likely Tolgay Arslan with Gary Medel taking place on the bench. Andreas Beck put in a disappointing performance on Sunday against Antalyaspor and Adriano could take his place at rightback, with Caner Erkin again starting on the left.

No new transfers, bar Pepe, are expected to get t heir first start tonight with Şenol Güneş known to ease in his new signings. Kasimpaşa in turn have needed to implement several of their new transfers already, having lost several key players over the Summer, however it paid off with a comfortable 1-3 away win against one of last season’s revelations: Alanyaspor, with newcomers Trézéguet and Neumayr (penalty) immediately got on the scoresheet for Kasimpaşa.

Kemal Özdeş had already done a commendable job at the helm of Kasimpaşa last season, coping quite well with the departure of several key players, and it looks like the 47-year old coach is well on his way to make the departure of André Castro, Titi and Tunay Torun seem like no big deal.
