STSL week 7: Beşiktaş – Trabzonspor

Updated: October 1, 2017

Beşiktaş are coming off a tough week filled with controversy, disappointment and a European victory.

The Black Eagles will have to do without 3 key players tonight as they take on Trabzonspor at Vodafone Park, with Atiba Hutchinson, Ricardo Quaresma and Oğuzhan Özyakup al out with suspensions.

With those suspensions Şenol Güneş is still left puzzling a bit, with Gökhan Gönül and Adriano Correia both not fully fit either. Adding insult to injury Şenol Güneş himself will be serving aone match suspension after he was ejected in the Fenerbahçe game.

Jeremain Lens is expected to replace Ricardo Quaresma on the right, with Tolgay Arslan and Gary Medel taking Atiba and captain Oğuzhan’s places in midfield. Álvaro Negredo is also expected to start with Cenk Tosun being given some rest. Necip Uysal in turn will take Medel’s place at rightback, as he had already done for 30 minutes against Leipzig on Tuesday.

Lesser teams would dread the coming of Trabzonspor in such a week, but following their undeserved and controversial loss to Fenerbahçe – and referee Ali Palabiyik – Beşiktaş showed once again how inredibly strong mentally they are by overcoming an excellent Leipzig side in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Meanwhile Trabzonspor coach Ersun Yanal is under tremendous pressure as his side lost 3-4 to Alanyaspor in the league last weekend, after at one point leading the match 3-0 in their own stadium. A defeat at the hands of the reigning and defending Champions could seal his faith with the name of Belgian coach Michel Preud’homme already doing the rounds to potentially fill his seat.

José Sosa and Olcay Şahan will return to the Vodafone Park for the first time since their departures and expected to receive a warm welcome fromt he home crowd.

Both sides are in need of a victory headed in tot he International break, so expect an interesting game with plenty of attacking football!
