Beşiktaş sign Adem Ljajić on season long loan from Torino!

Updated: August 31, 2018

Beşiktaş have completed the signing of Torino and Serbia International midfielder Adem Ljajić on a season long loan with a buyout clause.

Adem Ljajić arrived in Istanbul earlier today and successfully underwent his medical examination at the Acibadem sports complex after which he put pen to paper on a 1-year loan deal. Beşiktaş hold an option-to-buy the player outright at the end of the season.

Beşiktaş are yet to disclose any official numbers in regards to Adem Ljajić’s loan and potential permanent transfer, the following is unconfirmed but journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reports that Beşiktaş will pay a €1,25m loan fee while Adem Ljajić will be paid €2,25m per season. The move will be made permanent for an additional €6,5m, bringing the total to €7,75m. Adem Ljajić would sign a 3-year deal keeping him at the club until 2022 should the move become permanent.

Option or obligation?

It’s unclear at this point whether Beşiktaş hold an option or an obligation to buy Adem Ljajić at the end of his loan spell, however reports in Italy and common sense would both dictate that this is an obligation to buy (like the Loris Karius transfer).

Who is Adem Ljajić?

Adem Ljajić (Novi Pazar, 29 September 1991 (age 26)) is a Serbian International midfielder of Bosnian Muslim decent who plays predominantly as a playmaking attacking midfielder or left winger, he started his career at Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade before moving to Manchester United on trial where he managed to impress the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, he was sent back to Partizan with a deal in place to buy the player outright in January 2009 but Manchester United ended up backing out of the deal due to a clause written in to the contract.

He ended up joining Serie A side Fiorentina 12 months later on a deal worth €6,8m instead, spending 4,5 season in Firenze making 70 Serie A appearances and scoring 15 goals aswell as providing 13 assists before joining AS Roma on a deal worth €12m in August 2013.

Following two moderately successful yet inconsistent seasons at Roma in which he made 60 Serie A appearances and scored 14 goals while providing another 8 assists. He joined Internazionale on loan in August 2015, making 25 Serie A appearances at Inter, scoring just 3 goals and providing 3 assists.

Unable to convince Inter that he was worth a permanent transfer, Adem Ljajić ended up signing with Torino in July 2016 on a deal worth €9m from AS Roma. At Torino he has spent the past two seasons making 60 Serie A appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing another 19 assists.

In his time in Italy he has made a total of 225 Serie A appearances in which he has scored 48 goals and provided 44 assists, being involved in a goal every 150 minutes.

Adem Ljajić is described by Serie A experts as an “incredibly talented player capable of unbelieveable things but at the same time he is inconsistent”.

It’s clear that if Adem Ljajić is able to find consistency at Beşiktaş he just might be our next Talisman player.
