Kostas Mitroglou number one candidate to replace Demba Ba

Updated: June 20, 2015

With Beşiktaş accepting a € 14 million offer from China for Demba Ba, the Black Eagles are preparing for his potential departure and may look to a familiar face in Kostas Mitroglou to replace the Senegalese hitman.

Demba Ba rejected a move to China a few days ago but with Shanghai Shenhua’s persistance it remains to be seen if the 30-year old striker will continue to turn them down. With their last offer reportedly being close to € 7 million annually for the player, more and more speculation is starting that Ba might be headed to China afterall.

With Ba’s possible departure the Beşiktaş board have already started looking around for a potential replacement and according to reports from NTV Spor, their first option is Fulham’s Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou, who spent this past season on loan at his old club Olympiakos.

Mitroglou did not find success in England with Fulham but impressed once again in the Greek league with Olympiakos, scoring 19 goals in 34 appearances for the Greek Champions.

Beşiktaş attempted to bring in Kostas Mitroglou before, but found it difficult to agree a transfer fee for the Greek sniper. But it is believed that Fulham is more willing to compromise this time around.

According to NTV Spor the Greek international, who scored 8 goals in 35 caps, would cost the Black Eagles only € 2.5 million with an annual wage for the player around € 2 million.

Note: Fenerbahçe’s new coach Vitor Pereira coached Olympiakos for six months this past season and they have also been linked with Mitroglou over the past few days.
