Beşiktaş, who are trying to acquire German striker Mario Gomez, have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with his club Fiorentina.

Fiorentina are looking to bring in AS Roma’s Mattia Destro and in order to do so have to free up some budget, with Mario Gomez earning more than € 4 million per season at the Firenze club they are looking to offload him.

There seems to be no problem for an agreement between Beşiktaş and Mario Gomez. Gomez would reportedly make around € 5 million in Istanbul.

There are still some details left to be resolved over the course of the weekend between ‘Super Mario’ and Fiorentina however and it is expected that a full agreement will be reached by monday.

*It is not stated openly in Pedullà’s article, but his suggestion that there are ‘details’ to be resolved between Mario Gomez and Fiorentina all but confirm that Fiorentina still owe the German (a lot) of money. For anyone who knows Beşiktaş well, they’ll know that the Black Eagles are not about to go and pay a player € 5 million a year. But this is an exception, Beşiktaş would pay a very low, or not even any, transfer fee for Gomez. In exchange they would give Gomez a high wage and Fiorentina’s debt to him would be resolved by not asking for a (high) fee. This could also have some Financial Fairplay related advantages for Beşiktaş. So in essence it would be no different as if Beşiktaş would pay a relatively high transfer fee plus normal wages (€ 2,5 – 3 million). Now they’re just not paying a (high) fee for a player with two years left on his contract who cost Fiorentina € 15,5 million only two years ago.
