Mario Gomez finally set for Beşiktaş move

It was widely reported earlier that Beşiktaş officials Erdal Torunoğulları and Ali Naibi accompanied by transfer broker Ahmet Bulut had travelled to Firenze to finalize the transfer of Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez.

Now there seems to be white smoke, Firat Günayer reported earlier that the deal is done. Gomez has agreed to sign for Beşiktaş on a 2+1 year deal.

Mario Gomez will receive a signing fee of € 1,5 million and an annual wage of € 4 million. Fiorentina won’t receive any transfer fee.

We reported earlier that Fiorentina had a debt around € 2,5 million in back wages to Gomez, this was the reason for the negotiations dragging on for so long.

Gomez parted ways with the Fiorentina squad, who are on training camp in the USA, and returned to Italy in order to finally solve the remaining details of his transfer and his back wages with Fiorentina.

Mario Gomez will sign his (pre-)contract either tonight or tomorow morning and after that he will travel to Istanbul to undergo his medical and to be officially presented by the club.

Note: Rather than paying a transfer fee to Fiorentina, Beşiktaş will be paying Gomez a higher annual wage and signing on fee in order for him to forego the wages owed to him. Which in turn makes this a free transfer.

For Beşiktaş this is much better given their Financial Fairplay settlement with UEFA, as this will give them a positive transfer balance this summer with € 18 million coming in and so far only € 6,2 million going out. In addition it will also spread the costs of the transfer over a longer period of time.
