Sporting CP – Beşiktaş pre-match press conference

Updated: December 10, 2015

Senol Gunes: “All 3 teams still have a chance to qualify before the final game, just like we thought it would be. The results of Sporting break the balance in the group. We are expecting to win the game and finish the group as number 1, but a draw would also be in our favour. We know the strength of our opponent, they have a good coach and very good players, but we have a good team as well. We are both the leaders in our national leagues. I hope everything will go like we expect and we will qualify from our group. All my players do their best when they play. We will start against Sporting with our strongest line-up, we are not thinking about other games. We want to play our best football and win the game.”

Gunes continues: “Neither us nor Sporting is the favorite. During the first game they played a good first half and we a good second, ending the game in a draw. Both teams play good and technical football. There is no favorite, we will see what will happen when the game ends. I don’t know what our opponent is thinking, they have showed different things over time. Every game is important for us, every player wants to win every game he starts in. We have made it this far, so we are eager to win this game. It is not possible for us to drop the game, the same applies for Sporting. We want everyone to enjoy this game.”

When Gunes is asked about the rumours of a possible transfer of Ricardo Quaresma to Sporting, he replies: “Transfer rumours are unnecessary. I don’t want to talk about childish rumours. We are very happy with Ricardo. An offer can come in for every player, but we didn’t receive any.”

José Sosa: “We would have liked to come here with an easier situation. It is going to be a difficult match, but we are going to give everything we have. Winning improves our and our fans’ confidence. Every player wants to win, we definitely want to go through. We still have a long road ahead of us. We want to go as far as we can in every competition we compete in. We showed a good performance last season too. We have a new coach, who brings new hope and good transfers. It’s going to be a decisive game for both Sporting and us. I know the atmosphere here very well.”
