Matchday 16

The Black Eagles travel to the capital of Ankara on matchday 16 of the Spor Toto Süper Lig in search for their 12th victory of the season. If Beşiktaş achieves a 7th victory in their 8th away match they will once again end this round on top of the table going in to next week’s closing match to the first half of the season against Torku Konyaspor at the Başakşehir stadium.

Beşiktaş are the strongest team on the road with six wins and one draw in seven road games while Osmanlispor are the worst performing home side with just one of their five victories coming at the Osmanli stadium.

Gabriel Torje is the instigator of Osmanlispor and a man our boys need to watch closely.

Nevertheless Osmanlispor are not a side to be understimated with plenty of quality on their squad. In fact if Günay Güvenç starts tomorow he’ll need to make sure to cover his near post on defensive corners as Romanian winger Gabriel Torje, then at Konyaspor, managed to fool him with a goal straight from a corner kick last season. Torje is currently the top assister for his side, with 4 assists while also scoring twice including a stunning long range effort against Galatasaray which led to an upset victory at the Türk Telekom Arena at the start of the current season.

Midfielder Papa Alioum Ndiaye is Osmanlispor’s topscorer with eight goals so far this season, although he got the bulk of those goals at the start of the season and has only scored 3 goals in his last 10 Süper Lig appearances, scoring 5 goals in the opening 5 weeks of the season.

With Musa Cağiran and Mehmet Güven in midfield, Osmanlispor have two hard working defensive midfielder and they also have a ton of experience in the goal with Ahmet Şahin, who at 37 is the oldest player in the Spor Toto Süper Lig.

Mario Gómez has been a real Talisman for the Black Eagles this season, scoring a total of 13 goals already in the Black and White shirt.

The Black Eagles are coming off a morale boosting derby victory last Monday against rivals Galatasaray and also got a smooth victory on Thursday in the Turkish cup against second division side Kardemir Karabükspor. In their last seven matches, every time Mario Gómez has managed to get on the scoresheet the Black Eagles have maanged to bag the 3 points, with 6 wins in 7 matches, Gùomez scored an impressive 5 goals, a total of 11 so far this Süper Lig season. In fact, whenever Gómez has scored for the Black Eagles this season they’ve gotten a win every time, including in both derbies against Fenerbahçe (3-2, scoring twice) and against Galatasaray (2-1, scoring once), except for once (3-3 against Kasimpaşa).

With Veli Kavlak getting his first minutes this past Thursday in the cup and with Tolgay Arslan having started individual training again this Sunday the Black Eagles will be receiving a huge boost of quality in the second half of the season. With the January transfer window around the corner, Beşiktaş have two crucial games left ahead of them. Starting in Ankara against Osmanlispor.

Beşiktaş predicted XI:

Tolga Zengin (Günay Güvenç); Andreas Beck – Luiz Rhodolfo – Ersan Adem Gülüm – İsmail Köybaşı; Atiba Hutchinson – Oğuzhan Özyakup – José Sosa; Ricardo Quaresma – Olcay Şahan – Mario Gómez
